Clean Britain Awards Inspection Criteria

All entries will receive an unannounced inspection visit from our judges where their submitted area will be scored against the Clean Britain Awards criteria.  The marking system is designed to be straight forward and understandable, but also relevant, transparent and flexible enough to reflect subtle differences in quality.

Thirteen elements are assessed across a range of ten locations in the submitted area and each element is scored out of 10. The thirteen criteria fall under four sections and are as follows:

Section A: Litter Issues
General Litter (absence or presence of)
Smoking Related Litter
Dog Fouling
Chewing Gum
Section B: Aesthetics
Graffiti
Fly Posting
Condition of Street Furniture
Section C: Waste Issues
Fly Tipping
Waste Storage
Efficiency of Litter Bins
Section D: Appearance of Highways
Detritus in Channels & Footways
Natural Obstructions to Highways
Man-made Obstructions to Highways
