Clean Britain Awards Entry


Any authority or body responsible for helping keep Britain clean is eligible to enter for a Clean Britain Award in any of the three entry categories listed.
Your application should comprise a short written report (no more than 10 sides of A4) containing key information that you feel will enable the Inspector(s) to gain an insight into your area and activities prior to their unannounced inspection visit.

Possible headings could include, but are not be limited to:

  • Demographic information about your area (i.e. population, urban or rural, areas of interest or tourism etc)
  • A map of your area and its boundaries (to show the judges the area to be inspected)
  • Vision statements and objectives
  • The services you provide, including systems and process’ used (street sweeping frequencies, litter bin management, gum removal etc)
  • Challenges and key achievements
  • Community projects and engagement
  • Partnership working (e.g. privately owned areas & management companies, highways agency, network rail etc)
  • Resident testimonials

Entry Categories


There will be three categories of entry for the 2010/2011 Clean Britain Awards:

  • CITIES
  • TOWNS
  • DISTRICTS

NB: Entries should cover the whole of a councils controlled area

Entry Fees


There will be one standard entry fee for all entries in each of the three entry categories of CITY, TOWN and DISTRICT. This is £650 + VAT per entry.
The entry fee will cover:

  • A review by the Inspection team of the quality of the entry submitted – background information, current cleaning practices and procedures etc.
  • A half day inspection tour of the entry area or a portion of the entry area selected at random
  • A summary report following the inspection process – to be issued after the announcement of the 2010/2011 Clean Britain Awards winners at the Awards Presentation in March 2011

While Clean Britain Awards entries need to be approved/authorised by the relevant Local Authority, the entry fee can be sponsored by a body other than the Local Authority – e.g. a contractor or other commercial organisation.
